Catch more than fourteen hours of motorsports action this Sunday beginning with the Monaco Gran Prix followed by the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600. Warning: all three races could leave you bleary eyed!
Race Car Extravaganza
Fans of fast cars, particularly those participating in motorsports are eagerly awaiting this weekend. On Sunday, two huge races are being held in the US — the Indy 500 and Coca Cola 600 — representing the best of Indy car and NASCAR respectively.
Both events offer what is essentially a three day event beginning today in Indianapolis where various shorter races, a vintage car lap and fireworks will help get things started. On Saturday morning there will be driver autograph opportunities for fans at Pagoda Plaza followed by a noon IPL 500 Festival Parade in downtown Indianapolis. The Indy 500 kicks off at 1 pm on Sunday. ABC will be televising the event.
In Concord, NC which is just outside of Charlotte, winged sprint cars take the track in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Showdown starting at 5 pm today. Saturday evening the CARQUEST Auto Parts 300 will be held followed by the Coke 600 which gets going at 5:45 pm on Sunday. Fox will be televising the event.
Formula 1 Action
If Formula 1 is your preference, the Monaco Grand Prix can be viewed at 8 am Sunday, an event first held in 1929. The race takes drivers through the narrow streets of Monaco and is considered to be one of the most dangerous races of its kind. Speed Channel will be televising the event.
If you time everything just right, you can see all three races which will give you approximately fourteen hours of nonstop motorsports viewing. Not my recommendation, but hey it is a long weekend. You’ll need Memorial Day to recover, but don’t forget to thank our troops and military veterans on Monday.
